OVERALL ,
veronica's childhood was a privileged one. she went to the best of schools in new york city, was raised by the best of nannies, was taught french from the age of three up, traveled to europe yearly, and was given everything she could ever dream up. her mother and father's marriage was a business transaction more than a love connection but that didn't effect the judd household much, no two people were ever in the same room, except maybe the help. the entire family was distant, disconnected, and emotionally detached. they all went their separate ways and did what they could to keep up the judd family name. the name that held such prestige in the manhattan section of new york city. it was their responsible to keep the reputation up. and veronica would be the little hellion that challenged things.
during her childhood, veronica's little pranks caused a lot of hell but did nothing on the grand scheme. it wasn't until v was fourteen that she began to be a real hellion. she flirted with the boys, ran around the new york streets without any care for her nannies or parent's worries, drank her first drink, and stopped caring about her schoolwork (though her teachers still gave her a's to prevent themselves from getting the judd family wrath). veronica judd was turning into the junior socialite that she never wanted to be. she was turning into her mother. she was turning into a little slut. she was turning superficial. and things needed to change. by her freshman year, v had buckled down and decided that she was going to be the best student she could be... and that she was going to make a name for herself rather than living off her family's name.
even though she changed, the damage had been done. her mother had caught word of her daughter's escapades and was attempting to preserve the family's reputation. she began to send v to wolfsheim, maine during summers, winter breaks, and spring breaks so that she could "visit her grandmother" which really meant so that she could not embarrass the family. it wasn't quite a punishment though. veronica fell in love with the new england country side and became the exotic new yorker that everyone in the town loved. she became friends with a young man name jon wolfsheim whose father founded the town and then two were partners in crime. they partied together, had long talks, and would go out and paint the city red. she would dread having to go back to new york at the end of her summers and couldn't wait to go back once school was over so she could get away from her mother.
veronica judd graduated her high school with honors and was set to go to any ivy league college she wanted. but in fact, that wasn't what she wanted. she wanted to travel the world, go instantly into writing columns, and be the independent woman she always dreamed of being, but her mother didn't approve. veronica's mother thought that she should settle down, marry a young respectable man with a set up 401k, and have little socialite kids. instead, she was determined to be a successful young woman who could make her own name. v talked her father into getting her a connection with a big traveling magazine. the connection gave her a column that she could write about the best stops, inns, experiences around the world. though her mother insistently refused to let her daughter be employed, veronica didn't give a damn. v started being a reporter for the magazine at the age of nineteen and continued on.
it wasn't until v was twenty-one that she got an offer from her editor to do a cover story. the cover story was on the best places in england and london and she was to immediately go to london to investigate the best travel destinations, and that's exactly what she did.
