holden had lived in london for a year, give or take a few months. during his time there he'd made a good amount of friends, some early on and some more recent. milan prescott was somewhere between the two. they'd met through a mutual friend. more than a friend, really. while holden and brynne were a little more than platonic, holden figured milan to be more of a sister to brynne than a friend. this is hardly the point, though. the point is that milan was a friend. she was a kind, beautiful young woman, holden thought. she was just too goal oriented some days, which was why holden had no problem with helping her to toss a few water balloons off a roof or to take her away from work for a decent lunch.
he had to wait for the hands of the clock to hit their points just right before calling out, making some of his students jump, pointing to the folder on his desk in which they could place their finished or almost finished tests. he waited a little impatiently, rocking on the back legs of his chair. he closed his laptop and put it into his bag, sliding the folder into the back pocket once his lecture hall had emptied. he stood, stuffing his chair snuggling under his desk, and exited the room and eventually the campus grounds all together. he fiddled with his iphone and a pair of headphones on the walk to his car on the far side of the campus parking lot, a good form of exercise. he drove with his headphones in, instead of bothering with the outdated radio in his impala.
he tugged the pair out of his ears when he pulled up outside of milan's work, wrapping the chord up and stuffing it into his bag, tucking it away under the front drivers seat. he got out, moving to lean against the passenger door, facing the entrance to her work. he called her cell phone from his own and waited for her to answer. i'm here, and i'm feeling chinese, what about you?

when milan had first met holden it didn't take the two long to become friends. he was one of those friends where she could just relax and hang around with and not really worry about too much. They were always able to laugh and talk easily. Milan easily formed a nickname for him, Holdy. Actually she wasn't sure who had started it, either her or Bee. Before she went to Italy, Milan will admit that she used to be too into her work to have much fun. But lately she had been relaxed. More confident. More into making the first moves... a blush crept upon her face as she remembered when she kissed Ryan the other night. The memory of the kiss still melted down to her toes easily.
When Holden invited to take her out to dinner, Milan agreed. The two had never really spent time alone without Bee there, so it would be something new. Plus, when she had left her two friends had been getting kind of close on top of the rooftop. She wondered if anything had happened there. Milan knew about the history between Bee and Harry and she didn't know where that was going to go now, but she had made up her mind that she might already approve of the idea of Bee and Holden together. If there was a possibility, she added in her head. After all he was a good guy so she had no reason to not do so. She shook her head as she went to wrap up her work before Holden got here. Just as she did so, her cell phone went off from nearby and she stopped typing to answer, knowing that it would be her friend. "Hello?" she listened while he spoke and a smile formed her lips. "Actually, I was just thinking that chinese would be the perfect cure for me right now. Great minds really do think alike," she added playfully. "I'll be down in a minute."
After the call ended she got up and put on her jacket and grabbed her purse before heading out the door. "Myles, you can take your break now.. tell Drew I'll be back by two," Milan called out to her photographer as she left the door. A smile crept upon her lips as she went down the elevator. She always knew that journalism was her set career field but she never knew that the lifestyle would agree with her so fast. When the elevator doors opened, Milan immediately spotted Holden standing at the enterance and she quickly walked over to him, and the last steps she took had an extra bounce to them when she greeted him." why its one of my favorite people in the world," she said, hugging him quickly.
